Business Innovations provides options for future planning in business/entrepreneurship, to promote effective business communication skills, to reinforce the importance of keeping accurate records, to analyze ethical situations, and to understand the concepts of international business and governmental influence on economies.
Creative Promotions 20SV (PRO20SV)
Promotions is designed to help students develop skills in the theoretical and practical applications of projects related to assessing needs, catering to appeals and meeting needs through advertising, display, personal selling and special activities. In addition to covering material in the textbook, Promotion students are responsible for creating window displays for Locker to Locker and may have the option of working in the school store.
Personal Finance 20SV (PFI20SV) - new course for 2020-21!
Personal Finance focuses on developing fundamental financial literacy skills, including the value of money, basic economics, budgeting, saving, financial institution services, and investing. This is especially relevant to high school students, since they are entering the workforce and are considering future purchases that require financial planning, such as buying a car, travelling, or pursuing post-secondary education. Since financial literacy is a life skill, this course is a good option for all students.
Retailing Perspectives 30SV (RET30SV)
Retailing provides a basic introduction to the skills and practices required in job-entry level positions in retail merchandising. The course is appropriate to a wide range of abilities, and, as such, is useful as an overview of marketing for all interested students. Retailing Perspectives 30SV provides vocational preparation both for students seeking part-time and full-time retail employment.
In addition to covering material in the textbook, Retailing students work in the school store, Locker to Locker, during the noon hours.
Locker to Locker provides a service to the students and staff by selling products in four department areas: Confectionery, School Supplies, Sportswear and Miscellaneous. Grade 11 Retailing students work under the supervision of Grade 12 Marketing students. Here they get practical experience in all aspects of working for a small retailing business.
Venture Development 30SV (VDV30SV)
Venture Development will provide motivated students with the knowledge and skills to own and operate a successful business. Students will learn how to recognize opportunities that fit into their skill set or passions, how these opportunities can be successful on a small or global scale, how to analyze their market, promote, and ultimately sell their product or service.
Venture Development follows the Junior Achievement Company Program, where groups will develop corporations, establish goals and objectives, raise capital, produce a product or service, maintain financial records, report to shareholders, and liquidate the business.
Accounting (ACC30SV/40SV)
Prerequisite: Grade 10 Math credit
Grade 11 Accounting Essentials introduces students to the standard principles and concepts that govern the practice of accounting. Grade 12 Accounting Systems focuses on accounting for a merchandising business and converting manual accounting records to computerized accounting systems. It builds on and expands accounting principles and concepts introduced in Grade 11 Accounting Essentials. Topics covered provide a basis for further accounting studies. At some point technology such as Simply Accounting is used during the program. ACC30SV is a prerequisite for ACC40SV.

Business Management introduces students to leadership principles and practices in the management cycle of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. As such, the course provides a systematic approach to handling routine activities, problem solving in business and personal life and is suited to any student.
Economic Principles 40SV (ECP40SV) - new course for 2021-22!
Economic Principles focuses on both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles including systems and structures, supply and demand, market influences, the global market, and decision making related to economic factors. This course is designed for students wanting to learn more about how the economy impacts their personal and business decisions at a local, national, and global level. Students will learn more about their role in the economy and how economic conditions affect short- and long-term decision making. Since everyone is a participant in our economic system, all students would benefit from taking this course. It is also an excellent course for students interested in pursuing post-secondary studies in the area of business, accounting, or economics.
Marketing & Digital Commerce 40SV (MDC40SV)
Prerequisites: Management 40S (concurrently) plus 2 other marketing courses.
Marketing & Digital Commerce provides job preparation in the school store, Locker to Locker. Students manage the store, performing all tasks including housekeeping, ordering, store stocking, pricing, training and supervising Retailing workers as well as maintaining financial records for the store.
